DUBUQUE, Iowa - What’s the secret to happiness? One Dubuque man says he might have the answer.
Best-selling author, Will Bowen, recently named Dubuque’s Patrick Sterenchuck as one of the 50 happiest people on the planet.
Sterenchuck says he’s aware he looks a little ridiculous, when leading a class in “laughter Yoga”.
But 42- year- old Patrick Sterenchuck, could care less. Why? Because he’s happy.
Sterenchuck said, “I know this sounds preposterous but 92 percent of the time, I am pretty happy. “
Bowen took notice.
The two met, while Bowen was in Dubuque promoting his best-selling book “Happy This Year”. Earlier this year, in his follow-up novel, “Happy Stories”, Bowen features Sterenchuck as one of the planet’s 50 happiest people.
“I do my best to avoid gossip. That’s a big one. And not complaining, “ said Sterenchuck.
The Cedar Rapids native is a life coach by trade and says connecting with other people brings him great happiness.
“I love helping people remember how to live happy lives. It’s what I get to do all the time,” said Sterenchuck. “That makes me happy. “
He says he also practices meditation at least three times each day. And when things get tough he says he remembers the old adage, “it is what it is”
Sterenchuck said, “I practice allowing things to be as they are and seeing that as perfect and that’s an all day long, everyday practice. I have to remind myself all day long. “
And while he says his life is far from perfect, his commitment to happiness makes him feel it may actually be pretty perfect.
Sterenchuck will host a “World Laughter Day” celebration starting at 12:00 p.m. Sunday, May 4th at the Body and Soul Wellness Center in Dubuque.
