DUBUQUE COUNTY, Iowa - Canadian Railroad officials re-opened a bridge in Dubuque County Tuesday night, about 36 hours after a fire damaged it. Officials say they tested the bridge and made the call to open it at 11:45 p.m.
Back on Monday, a train on the Canadian Pacific Railroad bridge noticed the fire just before noon, about two miles south of the Massey Staion Marina. That is near St. Catherine in Dubuque County. They alerted firefighters and law enforcement. Fire crews had to battle the fire from the Mississippi River because there was no land access to the bridge.
Investigators say Canadian Pacific welders were working on the bridge about a half hour before the fire started. The fire didn’t injure anybody.
