DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) Gov. Terry Branstad has issued a proclamation of disaster emergency for 13 Iowa counties affected by recent severe weather.
Branstad’s proclamation Friday allows state resources to be used for response and recovery efforts. The affected counties are Buena Vista, Cherokee, Clay, Dickinson, Franklin, Hancock, Ida, Kossuth, Osceola, Palo Alto, Sac, Woodbury and Wright counties.
Certain residents in Hancock and Kossuth counties can also use a state individual assistance program to seek grants for home and car repairs, as well as other expenses.
The Iowa Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management on Wednesday made a request to the Federal Emergency Management Agency to conduct damage assessments in several counties affected by the storms earlier this month. The assessments could be used to determine if a presidential disaster declaration is warranted.
