CORALVILLE — A Coralville man is accused of running over another man, breaking his leg and leaving the scene of the injury.

According to Coralville police, officers responded to 401 Sixth Avenue at 4:21 a.m. Aug. 10 for a report of a man that had been run over by a car. Police said the victim suffered a broken bone in his lower right leg.

The victim told police that while he was in a parking lot, the driver of another vehicle — later identified as 21-year-old Misael Martinez-Mendiola — backed over him. Martinez-Mendiola sped off without stopping to check on the victim or providing any information.

A witness who saw the entire incident and personally knows Martinez-Mendiola identified him as the driver. Martinez-Mendiola was arrested and faces one count of leaving the scene of an injury accident, a serious misdemeanor.
