City Bus Service Starting in Oskaloosa
OSKALOOSA, Iowa (AP) Bus service will be begin Monday in Oskaloosa as officials work to meet the needs of residents who can’t drive and don’t have access to rides.
The Oskaloosa Herald reports service will begin on a route with about 15 stops. Service will be on Mondays, Wednesday and Fridays from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
The bus will be free to those younger than 18 and $1 for adults.
Dylan Mulfinger, a city management analyst, says 6 percent of Mahaska County households don’t have access to vehicles.
For the service to be considered successful, officials want to see the bus provide transportation to people who now don’t have access and for ridership to increase in the program’s second year.
State, local and private funding is paying for the new service.
