Cedar Rapids Assessing Homes for Safety Following Flash Flooding

  • Photo

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa — Building inspectors are assessing properties that sustained flash flood damage to their basements or foundations following recent heavy rains, according to a news release.

The city said much of the damage has caused a safety hazard to residents, and it is important to have professionals evaluate the damage.

Residents who have had utility cutoffs, basement water, and any structural damage should contact the Building Services Division hotline at 319-286-5903. A building inspector will come to your property to assess the damage within three business days.

The city said residents may need to hire a contractor and obtain a City permit for electrical or gas service restoration.

Residents in need of disaster support are encouraged to call 211 and register with United Way.
