CEDAR RAPIDS — An Eastern Iowa church will finally have a new home, six years after the Flood of 2008 washed away the New Life Pentecostal Church in the Time Check neighborhood.

But with donations and plenty of hard work, it’s coming back.

On Friday and Saturday, hundreds of volunteers will rebuild at a new site on East Robins Road by C Avenue NE.

Only the concrete was poured before Friday morning, and church officials plan to finish by Sunday morning for the congregation’s first service.

“It feels incredible,” says Pastor Pierre Gibbs, “We have close to six acres here. We have a wonderful church. It’s going to be a beautiful facility and we have a great church family. We’re all so excited.”

Gibbs says not only did the community help make this possible, but it was also because of the people across the state of Iowa.

The church will have a 130 seat-sanctuary and classrooms. It’s located at 2772 East Robins Road NE, with service scheduled Sunday at 2 p.m.
