CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa — A Cedar Rapids man died after being involved in a two-vehicle crash Friday afternoon.

The Linn County Sheriff’s Office, Springville Fire Department, Iowa Department of Public Safety and Anamosa Ambulance responded to an injury accident at 4:03 p.m. Friday on Highway 151 south of Wendling Lane near Springville. Responding deputies discovered a 2005 GMC Savana van driven by Todd Meeks, 44, of Cedar Rapids had been southbound on Highway 151 and hit a 1999 Mack Truck pulling a side dump trailer driven by 53-year-old Darryl Whitman of Cedar Rapids. Whitman also was southbound and was struck from behind by Meeks, according to the sheriff’s office.

Meeks was transported to Mercy Hospital for serious injuries. Meeks died Monday morning, according to the sheriff’s office. Authorities do not yet know whether Meeks died due to injuries suffered in the collision or because of an ongoing medical condition. Whitman was not injured.

The crash remains under investigation by the Linn County sheriff’s and medical examiner’s offices.
