Cedar Rapids Bar Raises Admission Age to 25 on Weekends

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa — Weekend nights you’re not getting into one Cedar Rapids bar unless you’re 25 or older.

Iowa law gives those 21 and up the right to drink, but after ten on Friday and Saturday nights you’ll have to be a bit older to do it at CJ’s Sports Bar & Grill. Those under 25 won’t be allowed in.

Management said younger patrons were sneaking in outside drinks and leaving empty bottles all over the property.

“We’re all about having a good time on the weekends and not dealing with the drama and the extra stuff, you know? The kids, they’re kids. They have Iowa City for that,” said Tanna Cambridge, a CJ’s bartender.

Cambridge doesn’t believe CJ’s will lose any business. She said most of the bar’s customers are older than 25.

Management said they’ll keep the change for as long as they deem necessary.
