Cedar Rapids Asks Citizens Not to Operate Flood Protection Equipment

By Chris Earl, KCRG-TV9

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa — As flooding concerns have been on the minds of so many in Eastern Iowa this week, the City of Cedar Rapids is asking people not to operate the flood protection equipment.

The city said that crews have recently seen people trying to work the city flood pumps.

City leaders stress this can lead to pumps running out of fuel, areas filling with water and flooding the pumps.

Most of the pumps run on a set schedule to try to ensure proper flood protection.

The city said sewer personnel have been on emergency shifts to maintain flood protection equipment 24 hours-a-day since the start of this season’s flooding.
