Made in Eastern Iowa: Packable Pails

By Ashley Hinson, KCRG-TV9

ELY - When Melissa Reed and her family decided to pack up and go to the beach, it involved buckets, toys, towels, accessories, and more. She, along with her husband Tom, decided there had to be an easier option, and thus Packable Pails were born. It’s a silicone made “patent pending” pail that’s also FDA food safe. They’re flexible, washable, and portable, helping to reduce the number of beach toys you tote along family vacations, the lake or the beach. Invented and distributed out of Ely, Iowa, Reed’s product has grown quickly in popularity.

“Sales on our website and Amazon began in May of this year and have taken off quickly with national brand exposure,” said Melissa Reed. “Initial retailers have included Candy Bouquet with over 200 National Franchises and Wings Beachwear. We have commitments from several large retailers for this next year and look forward to establishing more local vendors,” she said. The Eastern Iowa Airport Gift Shop will also soon be retailing the product.

Both of the Reeds work full time, but in the past two years, they’ve seen a lot of their focus on developing their product. “Packable Pails is working on expanding our line to include other complimentary products including a limited edition 2015 Easter line,” she said.
