Gordon Freeman spent years serving his country as a medic, both In Vietnam and twice in Iraq. Now, he’s serving up herbs and products to help people heal.

“We started with a product called Cold Be Gone,” and grew it from there, said Gordon Freeman, founder of Iowa Select Herbs. The company grew from Freeman’s injuries after a mortar attack in Iraq.

“I can’t stand taking pills. So I have to find a better way.” He wanted to find a way to heal naturally. “The individual herbs were great for one thing or another so it just expanded from there,” he said. He began working with herb combinations, and Iowa Select Herbs was born.

The store imports hundreds of herbs, then using water and organic ethanol alcohol, extracts the nutrients and amino acids. That’s the material that ends up in supplements and herbal extracts—and what Freeman says is good for you.

“We have over 30 different culinaries, and we have over 250 medicinal herbs,” he said.

“These herbs are all natural. They come from our forefathers. Every time you watch TV you see the side effects {of drug advertisements} and the last one is death. We don’t have that problem.”

The company has grown to be the #1 processor of Papaya leaf extract in the country... an extract that has been shown to help cancer patients..

“It brings the platelet count up and they can continue with their therapy and get well,” he said.

Iowa Select Herbs has customers all over the world. “We just filled an order for Prague and China and Vietnam.” And while Freeman is glad they’re growing... he says the mission is still small.

“My goal is to really help one person a day,” said Freeman. And if I can do that, I’m happy.”
