Dance Mor Ballroom Will Host Dances No More
By Max Walker, Digital Editor
SWISHER, Iowa - The music has stopped after 82 years for the Dance Mor Ballroom on 2nd Street. It first opened in 1932 and has hosted thousands of dancers and music fans from around the country since then.
Dances have always been on Friday and Saturday nights, but employees and long-time patrons got to spend one last night in the building on Sunday.
The walls covered in signatures and notes tell much of the building’s histroy, including a photo of the owner, Craig Davis.
Earlier this month, Davis said he didn’t know what the future held for the hall, but it was time for him to move on.
Davis bought the building from its founders in 1974 after performing with the band for several years.
He plans to put Dance Mor on the market in the next few months, and hopes it will become a restaurant or other place where people can still gather.
