Burglary Suspect Injured Jumping From 2nd Floor onto Concrete Floor

BLACK HAWK COUNTY, Iowa — The Black Hawk County Sheriff’s office said a man suspected of burglarizing a building at the county landfill suffered “significant” injuries when he jumped from the second floor onto a concrete floor.

Deputies responded to a burglary alarm at the landfill, 1509 East Washburn Road, just after 4:00 a.m. Thursday.

According to a news release, deputies found a white pickup truck backed up against an old, unused gate near the maintenance building. The truck had been stolen out of Linn County two weeks ago.

Deputies said they found 37-year-old Jason John Hall inside the building with several items taken from inside the shop piled up on the floor next to an exterior door.

When deputies found Hall in an upstairs room, they said he jumped through a window, falling 10-15 feet onto the concrete floor below.

An ambulance took Hall to a Waterloo hospital and later to University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.

Hall is facing one charge of burglary.

The investigation continues into the incident.
