TOLEDO, Iowa — A portion of a two-story building in downtown Toledo collapsed into an alley late Monday night.
The Toledo Police Department reports it happened just before 11 p.m. in the 100 block of West High Street.
The lower level contained a business, and an apartment was on the second floor. Witnesses said the owners and their 4 children were living in that apartment. Everyone got out safely.
Police evacuated an apartment next door to the building as a precaution.
Witnesses said the owners were renovating the first floor of their restaurant, Fueled, which is at 115 West High Street.
Police said the cause of the collapse isn’t yet known.
A portion of the street is blocked off until further inspection determines there is no danger of an additional collapse.
