Authorities Recover Body Found in Des Moines River

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Authorities have recovered a body found in the Des Moines River near the downtown area.

The Des Moines Fire Department says the body was removed Friday afternoon after a woman spotted it near the Grand Avenue bridge. A water emergency team used boats to recover the body.

The Des Moines Police Department says the body belonged to a male, and there were no immediate signs of trauma. An autopsy will be performed.

Authorities are using an identification card on the body to confirm an identity.
