DES MOINES, Iowa - The Iowa Department of Agriculture is making about on $1.5 million available in statewide cost share funds. The cost share is one component in its water quality initiative which is guided by the nutrient reduction strategy. But a criticism of the strategy is a lack of numeric criteria to measure how effective producers' voluntary contributions actually are to the health of Iowa's waters.

Also, the House Interior Appropriations Bill passed through committee by a vote of 29-19 on Tuesday. The bill determines how money is spent for the Department of Interior and Environmental Protection Agency during fiscal year 2015.
