DES MOINES, Iowa - The newest crop report shows that farmers had six and a half days suitable for field work in the last week. They used that time for chemical application and hay cutting. The report also showed that 93 percent of the corn acreage is at or past the silking statge. That’s two weeks ahead of last year. National corn crop progress is down two points at 73 percent good to excellent, but that’s still doing well compared to the five year average of 58 percent.
Congress broke for recess last week leaving the fiscal year 2015 Agriculture Appropriations Bill on the table. The House is considering a short-term continuing resolution in September. That would fund the federal government at current levels until mid-Decmeber.
