DES MOINES, Iowa - Iowa is known more for its corn than for its apples, but around a thousand acres are dedicated to orchards in the state. In 2013 more than seven million pounds of apples were picked in Iowa. That’s up from 2012 when only seven hundred were harvested, but some of the low crop harvest can be attributed to a hard freeze in 2012. And a couple of days of rain across the midwest is helping grain production, but not the markets.
