2 Hurt After Train Hits Car

IOWA COUNTY, Iowa — 2 people were hurt after a train hit their car Thursday night along the Iowa-Johnson County line.

Iowa County Sheriff Robert Rotter says Gerald Schaapveld, 70, of rural Homestead, was driving on the Johnson/Iowa Road just south of Highway 6 when he struck a train around 6:30 p.m. Thursday.

Schaapveld and his wife, Helen Schaapveld, 68, were taken to the University of Iowa Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The crash is still under investigation.
