Kee Baseball Coach Schultz Retires As National Wins Leader

KCRG-TV9 Sports

Lansing Kee baseball coach Gene Schultz has retired, the IAHSAA announced Tuesday morning.

In 45 seasons, Schultz coached his teams to a record of 1,754-398. He has won more prep baseball games than any other coach in the nation. His teams won nine summer state championships, the best of any Iowa coach. The Hawks reached 19 summer state tournaments, 16 championship games, and 32 tournament games -- all state bests for a coach or a school.

He began coaching at Kee in 1969 and, the IAHSAA said in a statement, “immediately his teams stamped themselves as a perennial power.”
