IOWA CITY, Iowa - Iowa City West guard Dondre Alexander has been suspended from Class 4A's top-ranked basketball team for a violation of school policy.
This is the second suspension this season for Alexander, a 6-foot-4 senior who has signed to play college basketball at Southern Mississippi. He missed three games after a verbal conflict with Davenport Assumption Coach Joe Barrer following a last-second Trojans win in the season opener.
Alexander is averaging 10 points per game for defending 4A champion West, which is 17-0 and on a 43-game win streak.
"I can be back for the (state tournament) semifinals," Alexander said, when reached Tuesday afternoon. Other than that, he had no comment on his suspension.
"I really am sorry to everyone on the #squad forreal," he posted Tuesday afternoon on Twitter.
Alexander's suspension apparently is for one-third of the regular season, or seven games. He will miss West's final four regular-season games, its two substate games and a state tournament quarterfinal, if the Trojans get that far in the postseason.
