UNI's Mitchell Named MVFC Defensive Player of the Week

    ST. LOUIS, Mo. Junior Ray Mitchell was named the Missouri Valley Football Conference Defensive Player of the Week for his performance against Western Illinois, it was announced today by the league office.

    Mitchell was an integral part to the Panthers' 28-13 victory over the Leathernecks on Saturday, coming up with two of the four touchdowns scored by UNI.

    The transfer from Kansas came up with his first interception of the game at the 4:09 mark in the second quarter, returning it for 44 yards into the end zone for his first career touchdown. With 23 seconds left in the first half, he notched his second interception of the game and ran it back 72 yards for his second score.

    His 116 interception return yards set a new UNI-Dome record. The Irving, Texas native finished with four solo tackles against Western Illinois.
