UNI Basketball Falls to Virginia, 57-43

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - The University of Northern Iowa men's basketball team dropped a 57-43 decision to the University of Virginia Cavaliers at John Paul Jones Arena on Saturday.

UNI (5-6 overall) got a double-double from junior forward Seth Tuttle with 14 points and 11 rebounds but could not overcome shooting 31.7 percent as a team. UNI had three assists in the game to go against 13 turnovers.

Virginia (8-3 overall) had 16 points from Justin Anderson and Joe Harris added 12 points.
Virginia led the game 19-9 before a 7-0 UNI run trimmed the lead to 19-16 with 2:54 left in the first half. Virginia led at the break, 21-16.

The Panthers cut the Cavs lead to 42-35 on a driving layup by Deon Mitchell with 6:55 remaining in the game. But the Panthers would get no closer and the Cavs eventually pushed the biggest margin to 16 points at 57-41.

UNI will be back in action on Sat., Dec. 28, against the Iona Gaels at 7 p.m. in the McLeod Center.

NOTES: UNI's Seth Tuttle became the 24th Panther to reach 500 points and 500 rebounds as he corralled his 500th rebound vs. Virginia ... Tuttle has scored 876 points and has tallied 507 rebounds ... UNI failed to make at least three 3-pointers for the first time in 92 games.
