Panthers Drop 5-0 Contest to Western Michigan

KALAMAZOO, Michigan - The University of Northern Iowa women’s soccer team came up short in a road match at Western Michigan on Sunday afternoon, falling 5-0.

Western Michigan (3-4-0) opened the scoring early with a third-minute goal from Anina Cicerone. Nicole Dulyea found the back of the net on a penalty kick in the 40th minute to make the score 2-0.

WMU’s Megan Matula, Nikolette Rivera and Brittney Pavlica all added goals in the second half.

The Panthers were outshot 25-7 by the Broncos.

Freshman Erin Zaideman started in goal for UNI and recorded three saves. Kim Gianos played the final 23 minutes at goalkeeper. Seven different Panthers registered a shot in the match.

The Panthers (0-6-0) return to action on Fri., Sept. 17, with a road contest at South Dakota State in Brookings, S.D. Game time is set for 6 p.m.
