PHOTOS and VIDEO: Ali Farokhmanesh from IC West to Sports Illustrated

CEDAR FALLS - Ali Farokhmanesh was an all-state basketball player at Iowa City West, averaging 18.5 points per game his senior year.
But despite being such a talented player, Ali was overlooked by Division I schools.
"I think mainly his size, and he's kind of an acquired taste. The more you watch him, the more you realize all of the intangibles he brings," said IC West coach Steve Bergman.
And even though he was overlooked by Division I schools, his high school coach wasn't surprised he made such a big impact on the big stage.
"And as a coach you're always selling that with some talent and a lot of hard work and coach ability you can achieve greatness and he's the greatest example of that and I think that's why people are going crazy about him," said Bergman.
Bergman still keeps in contact with Ali and he says he's having fun watching Farokhmanesh turn into a national hero over night.
