WBB: Iowa's Printy Scores 11 In Winning Return

By Scott Dochterman, Reporter

IOWA CITY, Iowa — Maybe it wasn't the perfect performance, but it was a perfect return for Jaime Printy.

The Iowa senior from Marion returned to action last night for the first time since tearing the anterior cruciate ligament in her left knee on Feb. 2. Printy didn't start, but she was effective in the Hawkeyes' season-opening 63-40 win against Northern Illinois in a preseason women's NIT first-round game.

Printy entered the game with 13:55 left in the first half. She drained her first shot, a jumper in the lane, with 12:10 left. Then, on Iowa's next possession, Printy popped a 3-pointer to extend Iowa's lead to seven. She later drove in for a layup.

"When she made that first 3 I was really excited," said Coach Lisa Bluder, who now is 13-0 in season openers at Iowa. "But then I was more when I saw her take the ball to the hole because you never know about that aspect of your game coming off the injury she did. I was thrilled to see her take the ball to the hole hard. I got my old Jaime Printy back. I'm pretty happy."

Printy knocked down her first three shots, all four free throws and dished three assists. She tied Morgan Johnson for the team-high with 11 points and added a rebound and a steal in 16 minutes.

"I just couldn't stop smiling," said Printy, wears a brace and sleeve over her left knee.

Iowa will host the Illinois State-Morehead State winner at 2 p.m. Sunday in a WNIT quarterfinal.
