UNI's Bonin Becomes All-American At 157

DES MOINES, Iowa - The UNI coaching staff told senior David Bonin at the beginning of the season to make sure he had a lot of family in Des Moines in March. “Something big is going to happen,” he said assistant Mark Schwab told the 157-pounder from Broussard, La. Something big did happen Friday morning. The unseeded Bonin won his 100th career match and became the first All-American for UNI since Doug and Mark Schwab took over the program. He whipped Virginia’s 12th-seeded Jedd Moore in the quarterfinals, 3-0, his third shutout of the tournament. “You live your life every day for this,” he said. “If feels great right now.” Bonin said he’s not surprised by his success this weekend. He came up short the past two years, watching wrestlers he knew he could compete with win. “I’m right there with them,” he told himself. “Why not me?
