UNI a Perfect Fit for Iowa City West's Lohaus

IOWA CITY — Iowa City West junior Wyatt Lohaus was in no rush to make a college basketball decision, especially with two seasons of high school eligibility remaining.

But Lohaus found the right fit on Wednesday when he took a visit to Northern Iowa. He decided to link up with the Panthers on Friday morning and insisted he’s firm with his commitment.

“I had already sort of liked UNI when they offered me when all the other schools did,” Lohaus said. “When I took my visit, it kind of just backed up what I was already thinking. I’m comfortable with it. I feel my game fits well in their system so I knew it was right. I figured why wait when I have the right school right here.

“I’m pretty firm. It’s a perfect fit for me.”

Lohaus, a 6-foot-1 guard, averaged 11.7 points and hit 45 percent of his 3-point attempts for Iowa City West last year. He was second in the team in steals (53) and third in assists (67). Lohaus helped lead Iowa City West to the Class 4A state championship and a 26-0 record. Lohaus also had offers from Rice, South Dakota State, San Francisco and Northern Colorado.

He’ll join current West teammate and incoming senior Jeremy Morgan, who also committed to UNI this summer. They also are teammates with the AAU Iowa Barnstormers.

“We’re very close,” Lohaus said. “We’ve played with each other for a long time, and I like playing with him and I want to continue to play with him.

Lohaus is the son of former Iowa basketball star and NBA veteran Brad Lohaus.

“It was just the fit in general,” Lohaus said. “The coaching staff, they have good facilities, it’s close to home and my friends and family will get to see me play. All of those things wrapped into one.”
