Mississippi River-The bass fishing was OK on the Mississippi River south of Lansing earlier this week. Chuck Marshall, formerly of Independence, tied into nice some 3 pounders.
At one of his hot spots the air was shattered by the screech of a bald eagle. One of her young was sitting above the nest, high in the tree.
Another was perched down low and was being dive bombed by red wing blackbirds. That young eagle eventually took off but it landed in the water about ten yards from shore. It appeared to be in trouble, but that was not the case. The eagle, coolly and calmly used its wings like paddles and made its way to land.
A swimming eagle. We had never seen anything like it before.
