DUBUQUE COUNTY, Iowa - A Chicago couple's dream for the Field of Dreams is closer to becoming a reality.
Mike and Denise Stillman now own the popular movie site near Dyersville. The $3.4 million deal became official late last week.
The baseball field, farm house and some of the corn fields will remain in place, but the Stillman's plan to build a youth baseball and softball complex around the movie site.
Denise Stillman says family's can still sit in the bleachers and enjoy a game of catch.
Right now, a team of engineers and designers are working on a plan to install the proper utilities to the fields that surround the movie site.
Crews will build 24 baseball and softball fields that will host dozens of youth tournaments in the summer months.
Stillman says creating the All-Star Baseball Park Heaven is what the already popular movie site needs to once again attract big crowds.
Stillman said, "we are going to keep it relevant for that younger market by bringing them there because of baseball tournaments. "
Former owners Don and Becky Lansing say they are now the Stillman's employees.
Becky will to serve as a tour guide for visitors at the field. As for Don, he'll continue to take care of the land, growing the corn on the famous field, just as he has done his entire life.
The Stillman's plan to host the first baseball tournament at the new field in the summer of 2014.
