CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – The Cedar Rapids RoughRiders have placed goaltender Stephen Michalek on their protected list. Now will he actually be joining the RoughRiders?
“There is nothing definitive, yet,” RoughRiders head coach/general manager Mark Carlson said Monday.
Michalek, 19, is a sophomore goaltender at Harvard University who has yet to play a game this season. He was an all-Ivy League second-team pick last season.
The Connecticut native was a sixth-round draft choice of the Minnesota Wild in the 2011 National Hockey League Entry Draft.
Chad Catt and Chris Birdsall have combined for an .861 save percentage in 13 games for the RoughRiders, last in the 16-team USHL.
