RoughRiders Lose Fifth Straight
By Douglas Miles, Reporter
CEDAR RAPIDS – Mired in a season-long losing streak, the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders buckled under an avalanche of shot attempts.
Dubuque utilized a 17-5 shots-on-goal advantage in the third period to score tying and winning goals and hand Cedar Rapids its fifth straight loss, 4-3, before 1,882 fans last night at The Stable.
"I just thought we had to play a way smarter game than we did tonight," RoughRiders Coach Mark Carlson said. "We scored three goals, I just think we need to pay more attention to detail and those kind of things."
The loss keeps Cedar Rapids (29-19-3, 61 standings points) in third place in the USHL's Eastern Conference, three points behind second-place Dubuque (30-16-4, 64). With nine games remaining – including one more with Dubuque Mar. 22 – Carlson isn't concerned with playoff positioning.
"We just want to win the next game," Carlson said.
