CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - Jefferson senior swimmer Lance Scallon has been swimming competitively since he was eight years old and loves nothing more than being in the pool. Even though he loved swimming so much, he decided to change sports when he was freshman in high school and went on to play basketball.

He was told he would have a shot on the sophomore team, but his basketball career hit a bump in his sophomore year when he dislocated his knee cap.

The doctors told him he couldn’t play any contact sports for six months, and that’s when Lance decided to go back to swimming. He joined the varsity team in his junior year and since then, he’s broken the school’s 100 backstroke record three times. He’s also in the record books for the 200 freestyle relay as well.
