Boys Basketball: Marion Beats Jefferson With Fourth Quarter Barrage

MARION, Iowa - Ty Gunderson scored 17 points to lead a trio of double-figure scorers for Marion in a 61-47 boys’ basketball victory Saturday over Cedar Rapids Jefferson at Marion.

The Indians finished the game on a 16-4 run after taking the lead 45-43 in the fourth quarter.

Brenden Landuyt added 14 points for the Indians, and Isaac Frazier scored 10.

Jacob Olson scored 17 points for Jefferson, and Ky Kramer added 12.

Marion led by four at the break, 29-25.

C.R. XAVIER 71, W.D.M. DOWLING 70

Trey Sampson’s late free throw let Xavier defeat 10th-ranked Dowling at Xavier. Matt Nelson scored 26 points for the Saints.

NORTH SCOTT 40, LINN-MAR 38

Matt Lassen scored 16 points for Linn-Mar at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines.

Eric Huber scored 13 points for North Scott.

CEDAR VALLEY CHRISTIAN 0-2 — Cedar Valley Christian dropped two games at the Bellevue Marquette Invitational. Jeremy Strutz and Spencer Zielke each scored a team-high 14 points and Evan Koch added 11 points in a 78-51 opening-round loss to the host Mohawks.

Strutz, Zielke and Jon Landis each scored 10 points to share team-high scoring honors in the second game, a 71-43 loss to Scales Mound (Wis.)
