CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - Scott Dochterman's weekly NFL report takes a look at the rookie quarterbacks who are either already in the playoffs or are playing for a spot in Sunday's action.
Never before have three players been so worthy of the NFL Rookie of the Year discussion. Quarterbacks Andrew Luck (Colts), Russell Wilson (Seahawks) and Robert Griffin III (Redskins) all have their teams either in the postseason or in a win-and-in scenario. All three teams missed the postseason last year with losing records Colts (2-14, now 10-5); Seahawks (7-9, now 10-5); Redskins (5-11, now 9-6).
Luck has thrown for a rookie record 4,183 yards and has seven game-winning drives in the fourth quarter or overtime, tying the most for any QB since the AFL-NFL merger in 1970. Wilson is the first rookie QB to start and win his team's first seven home games and has 25 TD passes, one shy of tying the rookie record. Griffin III is second in NFL passer rating at 104.1, has rushed for a rookie record 752 yards, thrown for 3,100 yards and tossed only five interceptions with 20 TDs.
GAME OF THE WEEK
Cowboys (8-7) at Redskins (9-6). The winner claims NFC East Division title and hosts first-round playoff game. If Dallas loses, it is eliminated. If Washington loses, it needs Minnesota and Chicago to lose earlier in the day in order to claim an NFC wild-card spot.
Minnesota Vikings LB Chad Greenway (Iowa) ranks second in the NFL in tackles with 145, six out of the league lead.
Marion native and former Iowa TE Allen Reisner was waived by Minnesota and claimed by Jacksonville this week.
LB Pat Angerer (Iowa) has played in 10 games and started two for Indianapolis. He has 25 tackles and forced two fumbles.
