Union Wins Class 2A District in Marion

Cedar Rapids Prairie captured the team title and crowned five champions at the Class 3A district wrestling tournament in Newton.

The Hawks finished with 251.5 points, 25 more than runner-up Iowa City West.

Marcus England at 106 pounds, Sam Uthoff at 120, Josh Wenger at 138, Trey Blaha at 152 and Skyler St. John at 160 won district titles for Prairie.

West's champions were Tanner Rohweder at 113, Christ Walters at 126, Tyler Hebl at 145 and Aydan Wynos at heavyweight.

In a Class 3A district in Epworth, host Western Dubuque won with 227.5 points. Austin Hosch at 132, Andy Dougherty at 138, Dylan Gansen at 152 and Max Lyon at 170 were individual champs.

Decorah's Austin Ashbacher won the heavyweight title.


Union Community won the Class 2A title at Marion with 118 points. Mount Vernon finished second, Solon third.

Mount Vernon's Trey Ryan won at 170 and Solon had three champions Louis Gnida at 120, Lance Evans at 220 and Logan Linderbaum at heavyweight.

Center Point-Urbana's Brock Rathbun won at 113, Vinton-Shellsburg's Nick Hyland and Michael Neal captured titles at 132 and 152, respectively, and Tipton's Jordan Challis won at 182.

Independence captured the New Hampton title and had three champions Chase Straw at 145, Kyle Fank at 182 and Mitch McMillan at 195. Nick Baumler (160), Tyler Johansen (220) and Dalton Lape of North Fayette Valley (heavyweight) also were champions.

West Delaware finished second to Davenport Assumption at DeWitt with Patrick Woods at 113, Sam Phillips at 126, Jake Voss at 160 and Brent Lammers at 170 winning titles. West Liberty's Elliot Henderson won at 120, Dyersville

Beckman's Cody Naber at 138 and Monticello's Daniel Pike at heavyweight.


Alburnett won the Jesup district with 166 points, 88 ahead of Maquoketa Valley. The Pirates' champions were Zach Fowler at 113, Hunter Washburn at 132, Conner Shulista at 138, Bryce Paul at 145 and Dylan Windfield at 170.

Maquoketa Valley's Jared Coyle won at 126, Ryan Parmely at 220 and Tyler Yonkovic at heavyweight. Other area champs were North-Linn's Brock Henderson won at 106, Elkader Central's Marcus Siegwarth at 160, Nathan Howe of MFL MarMac at 182 and Tyler Hoffman of East Buchanan at 195.

Lisbon finished second to host Wilton at another district with Nick Willams (120), Carter Happel (132) and Matt Montgomery at 195 winning individual gold.

Highland Community's Drew West and Bryce West won at 106 and 113, teammate Travis Cole won at 138. Zach Axmear and Brennen Grimm of English Valleys won at 145 and 182, respectively, and Tyler Donovan and Casey

Pench of West Branch captured titles at 152 and 160, respectively.
