IOWA CITY, Iowa — The Iowa and Nebraska men’s basketball teams are considering delaying their game in Lincoln from Thursday night to Saturday afternoon because of the impending snowstorm in eastern Nebraska.

Eastern Nebraska expects to get nearly 20 inches of snow on Thursday, which could make travel difficult for fans and for Iowa players and officials.

“The concern we have is for public safety, not really for anything else,” said Mark Rudner, the Big Ten’s senior associate commissioner for television administration. “We’ll take our cues from Iowa and Nebraska and hopefully if they do cancel because of the weather, they can come to an agreement on when the game would be played. That’s sort of where it stands.”

The teams are scheduled to play at 8 p.m. Thursday on ESPN2. Rudner said he has contacted ESPN officials about airing the game Saturday, but the none of the ESPN family of networks has available time slots. It’s also possible BTN could broadcast the game that afternoon or it not air at all.

“This really is not a television call,” We’ll make it work however, whenever they schedule it, we’ll see if we get television to do it.

“Our interest is if the game can’t be played, to reschedule the game as soon as possible and then we’ll just figure out television when we get to that point.”

Both schools are free this weekend so re-scheduling the game is not difficult. Nebraska’s next scheduled game is Tuesday at Wisconsin, while Iowa next plays Wednesday against Purdue.

Nebraska coach Tim Miles said Monday that school administrators have discussed moving the game but he’d prefer to play it as scheduled.

Iowa officials said this morning nothing is imminent about moving the school’s men’s basketball game at Nebraska from Thursday to Wednesday to avoid a major snowstorm in the region. However Nebraska Coach Tim Miles said late morning that school administrators are looking at possibly moving the game date.

Iowa coach Fran McCaffery was asked in his weekly teleconference if there was any truth that the game could move up a day.

“There could be, but I haven’t heard anything about it,” McCaffery said.
