QUAD CITIES, Iowa - The Cedar Rapids Kernels are bound for the postseason.
The Byron Buxton-led Kernels (40-24) scored eight runs in the eighth inning to beat Quad Cities 12-4 and clinch a Midwest League playoff spot.
Buxton was 3 for 6 with a double, two RBIs and two runs scored. He was caught stealing for the 11th time this season. The outfielder is batting a team-leading .346 this season.
Dalton Hicks drove in three to run his total to 53 RBIs this season, and Adam Brett Walker drove in his 52nd of the year in the win.
J.O. Berrios surrendered just two unearned runs in his six innings. Steven Gruver (4-1) got the win in relief.
Beloit was postponed in its game against Wisconsin, so the Kernels lead the Western Division by a half game over the Snappers.
Mike Hauschild suffered the loss for the River Bandits (35-29).
The two teams finish their three-game set on Thursday at 7:05 p.m.
