CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - Kernels outfielder Byrun Buxton hit a first-inning home run Friday against Beloit, his first bomb as a member of the team.

The 19-year-old took Beloit’s Michael Ynoa deep to left fieldto give the Kernels an early 1-0 lead. Buxton’s homer was the third first-inning home run in the first two games of the 2013 season.

Jorge Polanco and D.J. Hicks both went yard in Thursday’s 9-7 win over the Snappers.

Buxton is rated as the No. 2 prospect in the Minnesota Twins organization, and was the team’s No. 2 overall pick in the 2012 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft.
