The Iowa football team named Jake Rudock its starting quarterback on Friday via a tweet from @TheIowaHawkeyes.

"All 3 returning QBs have competed well and improved in each phase of our preseason camp... We plan to start Jake in our season opener, and we are all confident he will do a quality job,” head coach Kirk Ferentz said via the team's Twitter account.

The announcement didn’t come as a surprise, as Rudock took all the first-team snaps in Iowa’s most recent public scrimmage. The sophomore spent last season as the team’s No. 2 quarterback, but has not taken a college snap.
