Hawkeyes Begin Interviewing Baseball Coaches
IOWA CITY, Iowa Iowa interviewed a pair of coaches Tuesday morning for its vacant baseball opening.
The six-member search committee conducted the interviews, and more are scheduled within the next week. Iowa's next hire replaces Jack Dahm, whose contract was not renewed after finishing 235-302 over 10 years. Only twice in Dahm's tenure 31-23 (2007) and 30-28 (2010) did Iowa pick up winning records.
Search committee member Steve Roe, the school's sports informatino director, declined to comment other than to say interviews had taken place and more are scheduled. Associate athletics director Fred Mims is the committee chairman.
Among those rumored as potential candidates include Creighton head coach Ed Servais and Indiana State's Rick Heller. Heller served as head coach at Northern Iowa for 10 years before the program was shut down in 2009. Neither Roe nor Mims would discuss individual candidates.
"All I can say is we have a great pool of candidates," Mims said.
