IOWA CITY, Iowa Iowa junior center Gabe Olaseni was hit with a technical foul Sunday against Augustana (Ill.) for hanging on the rim following an alley oop dunk. Wednesday, Olaseni vowed it won't happen again.
"I think I just got too carried away," Olaseni said. "I watched the film a couple of times with the coaches, and they re-emphasized that I can't do that. I think that's the first and last time I get a technical in that certain situation.
"I guess I deserved it. If they called it, I deserved it. Like I said, It won't happen again. I may still get technicals but it won't be for hanging on the rim."
Iowa junior Aaron White was direct in his criticism Sunday of the team's performance against Augustana. White told media members that "people kind of have this sense that we've done something already, which we haven't."
"People are talking about us, we can't buy too much into that," White said. "We need to play more aggressively and not as casual."
Iowa Coach Fran McCaffery approved of White's message and delivery.
"I appreciate that," McCaffery said. "And that's what our team needs. I can't be the only one that says that, I guess is the point. Somebody in that locker room has to say it."
The fact it was White, a returning third-team all-Big Ten performer, had some weight.
"He knows what to say and what to do," McCaffery said. "You can do a lot of speaking in the locker room, but it better come from somebody who knows what they're talking about and has the credibility to say it."
