CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – The noise from the stands muffled the calls of “Help! Help! Help!” from the Cedar Rapids Xavier bench. Saints head coach Tom Lilly barked out the order to his team every time Ally Disterhoff touched the ball.

For the most part, the commands went unfulfilled, leaving the Iowa City senior in a one-on-one matchup. If the Saints’ players didn’t hear, Disterhoff took notice.

“Yeah I could hear it,” Disterhoff said. “It adds fuel to the fire for sure.”

The senior scorched the Saint scoring 29 in her team’s 46-38 win over Xavier Friday night in Cedar Rapids.

Disterhoff’s play stayed consistent throughout the night dropping 14 in the first half. None of her 29 held more value than the eight in the fourth quarter. With the game tied at 35-35, Disterhoft sparked a 11-0 sinking two free throws. All eight of her fourth quarter points came during that stretch.

“She’s been doing that all year long,” Iowa City head coach BJ Mayer said. “We look to her. She’s really aggressive. She’s able to shoot a high percentage. She’s able to get to the line as well.”

Disterhoft scored her 29 points on 12 shots. She went to the line 16 times, netting 13 points from the charity stripe. In the second half she attemped just three shots, making two of them, but thanks to her free throw line, still managed to pour in 15 points.

“Well, we didn’t defend her too well, if you look at the scoreboard,” Lilly said. “But I do think we made her work. I think, I’m more concerned with our lack of offense.”

It took the Saints 7:26 to make its first field goal in the first quarter.
