Girls Basketball: Aplington-Parkersburg Gets By No. 7 Panorama In Quarterfinals

DES MOINES, Iowa — The society of seniors survived a slow start.
Tenth-ranked Aplington-Parkersburg shook out the cobwebs and fought past No. 7 Panorama, 48-38, in a Class 2A quarterfinal at the girls’ state basketball tournament Monday night at Wells Fargo Arena.
The Falcons (21-3) advance to face No. 1 Western Christian in a semifinal at 11:45 a.m. Thursday. Western (24-1), the defending 2A champion, plastered Pella Christian, 65-28, Monday.
Aplington-Parkersburg has 12 girls on its roster. All are seniors.
Panorama (23-3) built an eight-point lead early in the second quarter, but the Falcons got even at 19-19 by halftime.
Back-to-back 3-pointers by Katie Thompson gave A-P a 25-21 advantage early in the third quarter, and the Falcons were in front 35-27 heading to the fourth.
Laura Toben led the Falsons with 13 points. Shelby Sandoval added 11.
Sidney Beckman scored 12 for Panorama.
