DES MOINES – The last time the Dunkerton Raiders were at the boys' state basketball tournament, they won a championship. Friday, they put themselves into position for a repeat.
Trevor Jacobsen hit four 3-pointers and scored 20 points and Dunkerton led from beginning to end in a 53-49 win over Belmond-Klemme in a Class 1A semifinal at Wells Fargo Arena. The Raiders (27-1) play West Lyon (22-5) for the 1A title Friday night at 6:05.
Dunkerton is coached by Brian Brungard, who played on the Raiders' 2004 championship team. His top player is Kory Kuenstling, a 6-foot-11 Drake-bound senior, who had 12 points and 11 rebounds Friday.
Kuenstling's brother, Kyle, was a teammate of Brungard's on that 2004 team. Dunkerton led after a quarter Friday, 18-9, and at halftime, 30-17.
The Raiders shot a sizzling 64.7 percent.
Belmond-Klemme (23-4) rallied in the second half but could never quite make it all the way back. Elijah Kinseth had 18 points and eight rebounds for the Broncos.
