IOWA CITY, Iowa - Bobby Kennedy was named Iowa's new wide receivers coach Thursday. Jim Reid was named a new defensive coach.

Kennedy replaces Erik Campbell. Kennedy was most recently at Colorado. He coached from 2004 to 2010 at Texas, the receivers coach on the staff that had current Iowa offensive coordinator as its OC.

The only opening on the Hawkeyes' defensive staff was defensive secondary coach, after Wednesday's announced departure of secondary coach Darrell Wilson to Rutgers.

Reid comes here after being the defensive coordinator at Virginia. He was dismissed from that position after the 2012 season. According to the bio of Reid posted at, he will "work with the Iowa defense."

Will Reid settle into a position coach's job? He was a head coach for 17 years, six at Massachusetts, nine at Richmond, and two at Virginia Military Institute.

Iowa's current defensive coordinator is Phil Parker, who was promoted to that job following Norm Parker's retirement after the 2011 season. Previously, Phil Parker was Iowa's defensive secondary coach for 13 seasons.

Also in Iowa's release was this: " ... former assistant Lester Erb has left the Iowa staff to pursue other opportunities."

Erb had been a Hawkeye assistant for 13 years, the last five as running backs coach.
