Snappers Walk-off with Win for 2nd Straight Night Over Kernels

BELOIT, Wisconsin - In the bottom of the 10th inning, Beloit's Adam Bryant roped a two-out RBI double off Kernels reliever Daniel Tillman to score Wang-Wei Lin and give the Snappers an 8-7 victory at Pohlman Field on Saturday night. Lin had previously reached 2nd base on a close play when he doubled on a ball that snuck through the infield into center field.
Tillman (4-2) took the loss for the Kernels. He went 1.1 innings and allowed one run on two hits while striking out four and walking none.
The Kernels held a 7-6 lead going into the 9th inning, but Beloit's Michael Gonzales homered off Dakota Robinson to lead off the 9th inning, tying the game 7-7.
Robinson went two innings and allowed one run on two hits while striking out one and walking one.
Michael Tonkin (3-1) picked up the win in relief for the Snappers. He pitched two innings and allowed no runs on one hit while striking out two and walking one.
The Kernels took a 1-0 lead in the top of the 1st inning against Beloit starter A.J. Achter. David Harris doubled off the wall in right center, stole 3rd base, and came home on a RBI single by Ricky Alvarez to give the Kernels an early lead.
In the 2nd inning, the Kernels extended the lead to 4-0 on a 3-run home run to left field by Travis Witherspoon.
Beloit's offense exploded for six runs in the 2nd inning. Ten batters came to the plate as the Snappers took a 6-4 lead. Daniel Ortiz singled off of Kernels starter Justin La Tempa to begin the inning and came home on a RBI double by Jairo Perez for Beloit's first run of the ballgame. Lance Ray followed with a RBI double of his own, scoring Perez and making it a 4-2 score. La Tempa then hit Tobias Streich and walked Andrew Leer to load the bases.
Beau Brooks then replaced La Tempa on the mound for the Kernels. With one out in the inning Adam Bryant doubled to clear the bases, giving Beloit a 5-4 lead. Bryant later scored on a RBI sacrifice fly by Michael Gonzales, making the score 6-4.
La Tempa started and went one inning for the Kernels, allowing five runs on four hits while striking out none and walking two. Beau Brooks pitched one inning in relief, allowing one run on two hits while striking out one and walking none.
The Kernels cut into the lead by scoring one run in the 3rd inning. Jeremy Cruz led off with a double and came home a RBI sacrifice fly by Justin Bass, cutting the Snappers lead to 6-5.
In the 5th inning Travis Witherspoon cracked his 2nd home run of the ballgame, tying the game 6-6.
A.J. Achter started and went five innings for the Snappers. He allowed six runs on seven hits while striking out two and walking none.
The Kernels took a 7-6 lead in the 7th inning. Jesus Campos led off with a single to right, went to 2nd base on a sacrifice bunt by Witherspoon, and reached 3rd base on a wild pitch by Beloit reliever Andrei Lobanov. Cruz hit a RBI sacrifice fly to left off of Beloit reliever Nelvin Fuentes, giving the Kernels a one run lead.
Lobanov went 1.1 innings out of the pen for the Snappers. He allowed one run on three hits. Nelvin Fuentes also pitched 1.2 innings for Beloit. He allowed no runs on no hits.
A.J. Schugel halted the Beloit offense through the middle innings of the game. He went 4.1 innings in relief, allowing no runs on two hits while striking out five and walking two.
The Kernels conclude the three game series at Beloit on Sunday at 2:00 p.m. The Kernels return home on June 30, hosting the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers at 6:35 p.m.
