Kernels Shut Out Dragons

By Aaron Hepker

DAYTON, Ohio — Eswarlin Jimenez and Joe Melioris teamed to shut out the Dayton Dragons and lead the Cedar Rapids Kernels to a 2-0 victory Sunday.

Jimenez started and pitched four innings. He gave up two hits and struck out six. Melioris (1-0) relieved and went five innings, surrendering only two hits. Neither pitcher walked a batter.

The Kernels scored the only run they would need in the top of the first when Trevor Hairgrove led off with a double, advanced to third on a fly out by Ryan Jones and scored on a groundout by Kaleb Cowart.
