Kernels catcher Carlos Ramirez has been named the MWL Player of the Week for the period July 19-25. The Midwest League and Baseball Advanced Media (MLBAM) announced the award on Tuesday.

Ramirez hit .538 (7-13) with four HR and six RBI in four games last week, with a .600 on-base percentage and a 1.462 slugging percentage. He scored five runs and drew two walks with four strikeouts. Carlos went on the DL July 26 with a right rib contusion after a collision at home plate in the second inning of the Kernels 7-2 win at Bowling Green on July 25. He remained in the game and went on to hit two home runs and drive in three runs.

Lake County’s Brett Brach was named the MWL pitcher of the Week for the same period. Ramirez is the fourth Kernel to earn MWL weekly honors this season, joining Stephen Locke (June 28), Garrett Richards (June 14) and Jean Segura (May 24).

The Kernels continue a nine-game road trip on Wednesday against the Clinton LumberKings at 7:00 pm, returning to Perfect Game Field at Veterans Memorial Stadium on Saturday, July 31st. Tickets may be purchased on-line at www.kernels.com, or by calling the Kernels Ticket Office at 896-7560. Ticket office hours are 10 am to 5 pm, Monday through Friday, and 10 am to 2 pm on Saturday.
